Chapter 1200 — The Difference in Injuries
"Not so!" Xiao Ben waved his hand. "The possibility you speak of does exist, but it is unlikely! Gu Pengzhan is a busy man. If Wei Zhao had long since recovered, why would Gu Pengzhan keep up this pretence with us? Has he nothing better to do? Besides, what would he gain by it? He has gained nothing at all! Whether Wei Zhao steps forward now or later makes little real difference."
"Put that way... there is some sense in it!" Xiao Ji nodded, yet pressed on: "Then does that mean Wei Zhao's powers of recovery are formidable?"
"Yes. And so I suspect that this time as well, Wei Zhao may have given Gu Pengzhan a hint: wounded though he is, his injury will heal quickly, and that is precisely why Gu Pengzhan is so unafraid!" Xiao Ben said in agreement. "Only that possibility could have swelled Gu Pengzhan's confidence!"
"Then what are we to do now?" Xiao Ji said. "The Pi family's two experts are in the hospital as well. We have nothing left with which to threaten Gu Pengzhan!"
"I will first talk it over with our business partners, and see whether we can manipulate and drive down the Pengzhan Group's share price. So long as we turn a profit for the Pi family, I believe that once the Pi family's two experts have recovered, they will surely step forward on our behalf!" Xiao Ben said. "Of course, in all of this we must hold fast to the Pi family's interests!"
"Mm, quite right! Then let it be so!" Xiao Ji said, and his heart was set at ease.
At the hospital, Wei Zhao met Yu Yuanyuan, a rather refined girl. Though she could not compare with Tang Yun and the young misses, she was still a very pretty girl, and pleasant to look at. If she truly married Er Goudan, that would be Er Goudan's good fortune.
One could see that Yu Yuanyuan was the sort of girl who kept to her duty, giving one a quiet, gentle impression.
"Yuanyuan, this is my chief! You call him Chief too!" Er Goudan brought Wei Zhao to Mother Yu's sickroom and introduced Wei Zhao to Yu Yuanyuan.
"Hello, Chief." Yu Yuanyuan nodded politely to Wei Zhao. But studying the way Wei Zhao was dressed, there was none of the rustic air that clung to Er Goudan. This man was Er Goudan's chief?
Wei Zhao smiled. "Hello. Shall we first take a look at your mother's injuries?"
"All right..." Yu Yuanyuan hurriedly stepped aside and let Wei Zhao through to her mother's sickbed. Mother Yu looked at Wei Zhao in some surprise. Though she had heard Er Goudan say before that his chief was a miracle doctor who could heal her leg, seeing Wei Zhao so young still made it hard for her to believe.
"Do you have the X-rays? Let me see them first." Wei Zhao glanced at Mother Yu's leg, encased in plaster, from which nothing could be told by the eye, and so turned and asked Yu Yuanyuan.
"Yes!" Yu Yuanyuan nodded. "The X-rays are with Papa. He has gone out to buy food; I will call him right now."
"There is no hurry. He should be back soon from buying food." Wei Zhao waved his hand, then asked Mother Yu: "Auntie, how does your leg feel now? Does it still hurt?"
"It hurts. It hurts all the time! The doctor said the bone was bitten to splinters. How could it not hurt?" Mother Yu sighed. "Young man, if it is too difficult, do not trouble yourself. Just do your best; these past days I have come to accept it..."
"Heh, let us wait until the film is brought and take a look before we say more." Wei Zhao smiled. "Auntie, rest easy. Since you are Er Goudan's elder, and may yet be his mother-in-law, then no matter how hard it is, I will find a way to make you stand again! Our two hometowns are rather far apart. If your leg is not nimble, how will you ever go there? We have mountains back home, wonderful fun, and Er Goudan can hunt wild game up the mountain for you to eat!"
While chatting idly, Wei Zhao had pointed out the bond between Er Goudan and Yu Yuanyuan, and pointed out as well where Er Goudan's home village lay. This was a roundabout way of giving the Yu family a discreet heads-up, and in truth it was also meant for Yu Yuanyuan's ears.
Er Goudan, simple and honest as he was, was no fool. Hearing Wei Zhao's words, he cast him a grateful look! He knew Wei Zhao was helping him.
"Then I truly must trouble you!" Hearing Wei Zhao's words, Mother Yu breathed a sigh of relief as well. If Wei Zhao could say such a thing, he must have some confidence in it! Mother Yu knew Er Goudan's character; he was a man who never boasted, and his chief must likewise be an upright man, or Er Goudan would never have acknowledged him as chief.
Yu Yuanyuan, standing to one side, blushed at Wei Zhao's words. Though she and Er Goudan each harboured that feeling for the other, in the end they had never broken through the window paper. Now that Wei Zhao had spoken it aloud, Yu Yuanyuan was deeply embarrassed and bowed her head, not daring to look at Er Goudan.
Yet hearing that her mother had not contradicted Wei Zhao, Yu Yuanyuan was glad at heart, for it meant her mother approved of her being with Er Goudan!
After a while, Yu Ren came in carrying several lunchboxes. Seeing Wei Zhao in the sickroom, he was briefly startled.
"Uncle Yu, this is my chief, Wei Zhao. He has come to treat Auntie!" Er Goudan introduced Wei Zhao's identity to Yu Ren. "Uncle Yu, where are the X-rays? My chief wants to have a look!"
"Hello!" Yu Ren hurriedly nodded to Wei Zhao and said politely: "I will go fetch the film right away. Please wait a moment..."
Yu Ren, too, did not doubt Wei Zhao on account of his youth. Er Goudan was a steady man and would not do anything unreliable. Astonished as he was at how the boy had gotten in touch with Wei Zhao, now was plainly not the time to ask such things.
Yu Ren found the X-rays and handed them to Wei Zhao, who drew them out and studied them carefully.
The leg bone had been bitten clean through; that is, the entire leg had been bitten off by the lion. Though it had now been rejoined, a section would inevitably be missing. Even with a good recovery, walking would always be a limp; with a poor recovery, standing again would be difficult indeed.
Originally Wei Zhao had meant to treat it with trauma medicine together with acupuncture, but now it seemed those would be of no use! After all, the bone was short a piece, and neither acupuncture nor trauma medicine could restore it.
Fortunately, the injury was still fresh and had not yet healed, so Wei Zhao could employ the energy method of healing to treat Mother Yu's injury! Had he waited until Mother Yu's wounds had healed completely, then even true qi would not save her. After all, once a wound has healed, true qi can do nothing; that is an organic change, wholly unlike a fresh wound!
It was just like the nervous systems of Tang Yun's father and Xiaofen: damaged, then healed over, so that even true qi could not repair them, and only certain medicinal fluids could bring about recovery.
