Chapter 984 — She Is Going to Die? Is This Real? Tang Yun Suddenly Feels a Sense of Unreality
A classmate right there beside her — the two of them had been squabbling only days ago — and today her father had told her that she was going to die!
Tang Yun had been angered by Feng Xiaoxiao's deception, and she disliked the way the girl kept wedging herself between her and Wei Zhao. Yet she had never once imagined that Feng Xiaoxiao was someone with one foot in the grave. The shock of the news was simply too great.
"Feng Xiaoxiao... she is going to die?" There was a tremor in Tang Yun's voice. Annoyed as she was with Feng Xiaoxiao, she would never wish death on her! It was just as it had been when she first heard that something had happened to Gu Mengyao — rival though Gu Mengyao was, Tang Yun had still sent Wei Zhao to help save her!
"Yes... this trip to Yanjing, I was in fact taking her there for a medical examination, and the results were very bad. The vitality in her body is fading away, bit by bit..." Feng Tianlong sighed. "And in Yanjing, she had an attack... the symptoms were the same as her mother's when her mother had an attack. But you brought her back! Wei Zhao, you can save Xiaoxiao, can't you?"
"That last time at the hotel, when Xiaoxiao suddenly fainted — was that an attack?" Wei Zhao remembered it: Feng Xiaoxiao had collapsed for no apparent reason, and that faint had nearly drained every last drop of energy from his body!
Yet Wei Zhao had found no sign of illness in Feng Xiaoxiao at all! To him, she was a perfectly normal person with no disease whatsoever. He had thought it strange at the time, but had not paid it much mind.
Now, though, hearing Feng Tianlong's account, Wei Zhao began to find it rather odd. How could a healthy person, with no injury at all, drain away every drop of energy in his body? It defied all reason!
And then it struck Wei Zhao — the question Feng Xiaoxiao had asked him today! She had asked him to look and see how long she could live. At the time he had taken it for a joke, had not taken it seriously, and had brushed her off with a careless word. But now it seemed that what she had truly wanted to ask was how long she had left to live!
"Yes. With Xiaoxiao's illness, she cannot eat too much cold-natured food — seafood, for instance," Feng Tianlong said. "Last time she ate too much seafood and it brought on an attack... and if nothing unexpected had happened, that time she would have... would never have woken up again! But you brought her back. That can only be called a miracle!"
Wei Zhao was stunned by Feng Tianlong's words. He had never imagined that last time at the hotel, Feng Xiaoxiao had come within a hair's breadth of death! If he had not gone back to the hotel with her, if she had been there alone — the consequences did not bear thinking about. He might never have seen her again!
"Does she herself know that she cannot eat cold-natured food?" Wei Zhao asked with a bitter smile.
"She knows. But Xiaoxiao, that child — sometimes when the impulse takes her, she acts without a thought for the consequences..." Feng Tianlong shook his head. "She knows she does not have long to live, so she does everything on whim, whatever comes into her head she does, afraid of dying with regrets..."
"Heh, I can see that..." Wei Zhao shrugged. And yet, seen now, that temperament of hers was rather endearing. "Still, she is not wrong to do so. If you can live a short life freely and gloriously, then there will be no regrets..."
Beside them, Tang Yun was moved in spite of herself. She had never imagined that Feng Xiaoxiao hid it so deeply, keeping her sorrow locked in her heart while showing a bright, happy face every day, looking to all the world like sunshine itself — when in truth, she was the most miserable of them all!
"Wei Zhao, you can save Xiaoxiao, can't you?" Feng Tianlong raised his head to look at Wei Zhao, his eyes full of hope.
"No." Wei Zhao's answer was blunt. "I could not even determine what illness she has. As far as I can tell, she is not ill at all. How am I supposed to treat her?"
Wei Zhao was not trying to crush Feng Tianlong; he was simply stating the facts. Otherwise, if he gave the man hope, the disappointment later would be all the greater.
"This..." Feng Tianlong's face fell at once. When he had first summoned Wei Zhao, he had been full of hope! After all, Wei Zhao had saved Liu Zhenhu, and more crucially, the last time Feng Xiaoxiao had an attack, it was Wei Zhao who had brought her back! Yet she had not been cured — the indicators in her body had merely turned back a little from their worst, a slight rise that would soon sink to the trough again.
Even so, it had given Feng Tianlong tremendous hope! In his eyes, once Feng Xiaoxiao fell into a coma, it was the sign that she was nearing the end of her life, and no medical means could help her — yet Wei Zhao had pulled her back!
But Wei Zhao's words struck Feng Tianlong like a blow to the head, and he found them hard to accept. "Then how did you save Xiaoxiao last time? How about... you examine her condition more carefully?"
"All I did was channel all the true qi in my body into her. That is not treatment," Wei Zhao said. "And this is not a matter of care or carelessness. You and I are both cultivators; you should know that once my true qi has circulated through Xiaoxiao's body, I can determine what ails her. But I found nothing."
"This..." Feng Tianlong hesitated, then said, "Wei Zhao, can you think of some other way? I, Feng Tianlong, may not have much money, but if you are willing to help, whatever conditions you set, I will meet them even if I have to sell everything I own!"
"Uncle Feng, you are putting it too strongly!" Wei Zhao's expression turned grave. "You know something of what kind of man I am. When I treated the Liu family, I took a hundred million — that was because I did not know them. But when I treated Yang Huaijun, I took not a single cent and did everything in my power. Your relationship with me is the same as Yang Huaijun's with me... I think I need not say more..."
Feng Tianlong's expression shifted. Yang Huaijun he naturally knew as well; they had all worked together. Wei Zhao's words made his position clear: if he could save Xiaoxiao, he would do so without hesitation. But saying this now meant there truly was no way.
"Wei Zhao, then if Xiaoxiao falls into a coma again, can you still channel your true qi into her..." Feng Tianlong knew his request was somewhat excessive. A martial artist prized his own true qi above all, for it was cultivated drop by drop through bitter effort. To give it away to another for nothing would not only diminish his own strength, but might even endanger his life... So when he said this, Feng Tianlong was very tense.
"Yes!" This time Wei Zhao answered just as bluntly — only it was an affirmative answer. True qi was important to Wei Zhao, but not vitally so; once spent, it could be swiftly restored within the jade pendant's space.
