Chapter 3009 — Tang Yun's Coldness

The Blossom Guardian

"What? You say you're Elder Tang's father?" The valley patrol disciple was struck dumb on the spot. The words of the two men in the carriage left him gaping—didn't Tang Yun's parents both live in the Snow Valley? Who in the Snow Valley did not know that?

Of all the people these two could have impersonated, they had to pick Tang Yun's father? Weren't they exposing themselves on the spot?

Still, the patrol disciple did not call them out immediately. Since this fellow was trading on Tang Yun's father's name to swindle them, he had to be taken down first—and then they would see what treacherous purpose lay behind it.

"That's right!" Tang Lingtou had no idea what the disciple was thinking. Hearing the question, he nodded at once.

The Snow Valley disciple said without betraying a thing: "Wait here a moment, the two of you. I'll go make the report."

"Very well," Tang Lingtou nodded.

The patrol disciple produced a slip of paper and slapped it straight onto Tang Lingtou's windshield. It read: "Valley Patrol Disciple 19—Awaiting Report."

Tang Lingtou and Tang Yuyu, understanding none of it, waited quietly there for the patrol disciple to return with his report. What they got instead was a band of Snow Valley disciples, bristling with menace!

Every one of them possessed strength ranging from the early Earth-rank to the peak of late Earth-rank. The moment they arrived they encircled Tang Lingtou and Tang Yuyu, leaving the two of them not daring to harbor the slightest thought of resistance.

In truth, even had these people not been Earth-rank, Tang Lingtou would still not have dared to make a rash move. This was Snow Valley's territory, after all; no matter how arrogant he was, he could not possibly come to Snow Valley to throw his weight around. Would that not be courting death?

Besides, he had come to claim kinship. He had to present a genial front.

"What... what is the meaning of this?" Tang Lingtou had never expected that instead of Tang Yun, a pack of Snow Valley disciples would greet him—and they had not come in peace!

"Seize them first. I will relay the matter to Elder Tang and let her decide!" The one on duty today was another Snow Valley elder, Elder Chen. Since the matter involved Tang Yun, he would not act on his own authority; he would first take these two self-proclaimed father and brother of Tang Yun into custody and wait for Tang Yun to deal with it.

Tang Lingtou had meant to argue his case, but hearing Elder Chen say he would inform Tang Yun, he relaxed somewhat. Once Tang Yun arrived, everything would be easy to explain.

So Tang Lingtou shot Tang Yuyu a look, and the two offered no resistance, docilely following the Snow Valley disciples to the valley's reception hall, where they were placed under temporary guard.

Tang Yun was in the midst of her cultivation when the Grand Elder suddenly paid her a visit, which surprised her somewhat. As a rule, the Grand Elder did not come to see Tang Yun in person; even when there was a matter, she would have the disciple on duty relay it. That she had come here herself meant something of importance concerning Tang Yun had happened.

For instance, Wei Zhao had come—or someone connected to Wei Zhao had come.

"Tang Yun pays her respects to the Grand Elder!" Tang Yun rose to her feet and greeted her respectfully.

"Elder Tang, two people have arrived outside the Snow Valley claiming to be your father and your brother. Do you know these two?" The Grand Elder did not mince words but asked bluntly. After all, the visitors were not Wei Zhao, so there was no need for concealment.

It was simply that Snow Valley's rule required anyone seeking Tang Yun to be reported to the Grand Elder first—because the Grand Elder feared Wei Zhao might come straight here—and that was why she had come in person today.

"My father? My brother?" Tang Yun was slightly taken aback. "Doesn't my father live right here in the Snow Valley? And... I have a younger brother, not an elder brother."

"Then these two are swindlers?" The Grand Elder nodded. "Then I shall have these two frauds taught a lesson and driven from the Snow Valley!"

"Wait!" Something seemed to strike Tang Yun. "Let me go and see them first."

"Very well, go then. They are in the reception hall. I won't come along—just handle it as you see fit," the Grand Elder said to Tang Yun.

"Understood." Tang Yun rose and left the room, heading toward the reception hall.

The Grand Elder had actually been quite pleased with Tang Yun of late. Wei Zhao had come before, yet Tang Yun had not acknowledged him, nor had she done anything untoward, which had set the Grand Elder's mind at ease.

Her only worry was that Tang Yun had encountered an obstacle in her cultivation of the Heartless Art! If the Heartless Art were not cultivated to its utmost, then in the end there would be no crossing the chasm between the peak of late Heaven-rank and Great Perfection!

Though the Grand Elder herself was at the peak of late Heaven-rank, infinitely close to Great Perfection, she was not Great Perfection after all! And though Tang Yun was an inheritor, beneath the Heavenly Dao no level barrier existed for her—yet between the peak of late Heaven-rank and Great Perfection of the peak of late Heaven-rank, there was no level barrier at all!

It was a matter of accumulated strength and the cultivator's own enlightenment, having nothing to do with level barriers. If the Heartless Art could not be raised in rank, that final step would simply never be taken—and that was what worried the Grand Elder most.

Tang Yun made her way to the reception hall and at a glance saw Tang Lingtou and Tang Yuyu, surrounded on all sides by Snow Valley disciples. She had vaguely guessed it would be these two, but seeing them with her own eyes, a complex look still flickered across her face.

"Snow Valley disciples, all of you may leave," Tang Yun waved a hand and said to the assembled disciples in the room.

"Yes, Elder Tang!" Seeing Tang Yun arrive, the disciples all withdrew from the reception hall with respectful bows.

And now, in the reception hall, only three remained: Tang Lingtou, Tang Yuyu, and Tang Yun.

"Tang Yun! I never imagined you'd be this formidable—already an elder of the Snow Valley! As your father, I'm truly happy and proud for you!" Tang Lingtou did not know how to begin. He stewed for a long while before managing to get out this sentence.

Of course, had these words been spoken between any other father and daughter, they would have been utterly ordinary. But placed in the mouths of Tang Yun and Tang Lingtou, they were truly somewhat absurd.

"What have you come for?" Apart from that flicker of complexity at the door, Tang Yun's face had already returned to its indifferent mask. She had cultivated the Heartless Art, and her whole being was cold and icy; even facing Wei Zhao, her aura would not change.

Tang Yun did not wish it so, but there was no help for it—such was the nature of the mnemonic. The more diligently she cultivated it, the more her very aura would transform.

Tang Yun's coldness unsettled Tang Lingtou somewhat. Watching her indifferent demeanor, he put on a fawning smile and said, "Tang Yun, I know that at your grandfather's birthday feast before, I was in the wrong. I've come here specially to apologize to you..." (To be continued.
