Chapter 2188 — Stealing a Parking Space
"You've been hiding the You family all these years, and you've contributed quite a bit to our Xuandan Sect. We can't strike at your enemies directly, but there's no problem with us advising you from behind the scenes," the Silkworm Transformation said... Wei Zhao still had no idea he had already drawn the Xuandan Sect's attention. In the blink of an eye, it was time to leave school.
Wei Zhao, Wang Xinyan, Han Jingyi, and Bai Weituo left the classroom together, while Song Xiaodao went off on his own. That kid had been acting all mysterious lately—word was he had his eye on a girl from another school and camped outside her school every day, pouring on the charm.
Wei Zhao saw Han Jingyi into the Grand Cherokee, handed her the car keys and the alchemist's notes the white-collar guy had given him, and told her to wait in the car for the young lady, Xiaoshu, and her little brother. Then he headed off toward the boxing club with Wang Xinyan and Bai Weituo.
That Audi Q7 was still parked downstairs from the boxing club's gymnasium. Bai Weituo had already arranged for He Meiyue, Chai Xiaoling, and Zhao Shengji to wait there.
Zhao Shengji had gone to the campus infirmary that afternoon for a checkup and, under the doctors' astonished gazes, completed his discharge paperwork. Those doctors were all quietly baffled—could it be that a fat person's excess nutrition made even broken bones heal that fast?
Not many students at the school knew about what had happened at the boxing club at noon, but inside the club it was already common knowledge, and Li Biaohan and Gao Lutong had both put out the word: from now on, stay well away from Wei Zhao and his crowd—don't go provoking them!
So the moment Wei Zhao and the others arrived in front of the boxing club gymnasium, the club members all looked at Wei Zhao with a kind of awe. Anyone who could put Li Biaohan and Gao Lutong in the hospital was definitely not someone small-time members like them could afford to cross.
"The boxing club's really got it good—a private parking lot right out front, while the rest of us have to park in the lot at the school gate, so far from the biology department's classrooms and dorms!" Bai Weituo eyed the big "P" sign and the "Boxing Club Only" lettering in front of the club with plain envy.
"Then we'll park here from now on," Wei Zhao said, pointing toward the club entrance. He called out to the lackey who had tipped off Gao Lutong at noon: "You. Come here."
The lackey had been about to head back to his dorm. He hadn't expected to run into Wei Zhao the moment he stepped outside, and nearly jumped out of his skin—he figured Wei Zhao was going to beat him up over the noon business. Scared stiff, he couldn't make his legs move, and he asked, trembling, "B-brother. You calling me?"
"No kidding—anyone else here know me?" Wei Zhao said.
"Y-yes... they all know you. Brother Biaohan and Brother Gao both told us—told us not to provoke you..." the lackey said cautiously.
"Oh, your parking lot's pretty nice. Pass a message to Li Biaohan for me: I'm commandeering it! From now on our cars park here. A few more cars will be coming in a few days—have him keep an eye on them for me. If a car gets scratched, I'll hold him responsible for the damages!" Wei Zhao said.
"Th-that... yes..." The lackey grumbled inwardly—aren't you a bit too domineering? Fine, commandeering the parking lot, that's one thing, since it's still school grounds. But you want us to watch your cars, and if they get scratched you'll come after us for the money? Isn't that pushing it a little far?
But he was just a lackey, and he couldn't say much. Both of the big bosses were in the hospital, and he didn't want to end up the same way. All he had to do was pass along the message—whether it flew or not was for the bosses to hash out with Wei Zhao. None of his business.
Before long, Zhao Shengji, Chai Xiaoling, and He Meiyue arrived. Li Biaohan's Audi Q7 was the fully loaded seven-seat version, more than enough for six people. The movie theater had been booked by Bai Weituo, so naturally Bai Weituo drove and led the way.
"Driving this thing is just great. Way better than the cars at the driving school!" Bai Weituo said from the bottom of his heart. "The boss really is something—not only did he get us a car, now we've even got a parking space and a lackey to watch it!"
"All right, enough gloating—just drive," He Meiyue said. She had heard about the noon business too. She found it a little eerie that Bai Weituo and the others had come by a car out of nowhere—Wei Zhao was actually that formidable? Talk about keeping it hidden. No wonder a girl as pretty as Wang Xinyan had been won over.
"All right, all right!" Bai Weituo said quickly.
"Meiyue, looks like Bai Weituo's scared of you—he does whatever you say!" Chai Xiaoling laughed.
"I'm just thinking about everyone's safety," He Meiyue said with a smile, but she didn't take the bait.
Wei Zhao could tell that He Meiyue probably didn't dislike Bai Weituo, but she certainly wasn't all that fond of him either. This outing was less a date than a dorm-to-dorm group hangout. No wonder He Meiyue had insisted on dragging along Chai Xiaoling, Wang Xinyan, himself, and Zhao Shengji—that way it was a proper dormitory alliance, with nothing to do with dating at all.
It made Wei Zhao think that this girl He Meiyue was clever and calculating.
But that was Bai Weituo's problem. Wei Zhao couldn't help him there, and he wouldn't try to talk him out of it either—after all, there was nothing seriously wrong with He Meiyue's character. For a girl, when it came to a matter of lifelong commitment, doing a little extra scouting was only reasonable.
When they reached the parking lot outside the movie theater, Bai Weituo began carefully backing into a space. His driving was passable enough while moving forward, but the moment he had to reverse, it was obvious at once that he was a beginner!
It's a common failing among novice drivers: fine on the road, but once it comes to parking, things get difficult.
Bai Weituo was already nervous, inching along so as not to scrape the cars beside him—but just as he was reversing, a Porsche Cayenne came zipping in and darted straight into the space Bai Weituo had picked! Clearly the Porsche's driver was a veteran, thoroughly skilled at snatching parking spots.
But the situation gave Bai Weituo a real fright. He was in the middle of reversing when someone stole his space; instinctively he went for the brake, but instead of the brake he stomped down hard on the accelerator. There was a tremendous crash—the rear of the Audi Q7 slammed into the rear of the Cayenne!
"We're done for!" Bai Weituo was on the verge of tears. His first day driving, and he'd gotten into a crash! The car was insured, sure, but today was supposed to be a date—if he called the insurance company and then took the car to a 4S dealership for repairs, heaven knew how long that would drag on!
The other driver's space-grabbing had Bai Weituo furious, but in the end he was the one who'd hit them, so Bai Weituo got out of the car with a fairly decent attitude and waited for the other driver to come out so they could discuss filing an insurance claim.
Except the other driver was utterly arrogant! (To be continued) RQ
