Chapter 1327 — Dissenting Opinions: One Might Not Even Notice It Oneself, and When Wei Zhao Spoke, This Person Had Probably Not Yet Come This Close
"What is it?" Chen Yutian asked coolly.
Seeing Chen Yutian emerge, the burly man was taken aback for a moment — he hadn't expected this companion of the Couple Bandits to be such a sharp hand, actually noticing him approach. Still, it didn't surprise him: which tomb raider didn't have capable men around them? Even at Old Hei's side sat a Xuan-tier expert holding down the fort!
These people all lived with their skulls hooked to their belts — one moment's carelessness and they would die inside an ancient tomb.
"Old Hei asks the two bandits to come to his tent. The guests have arrived; he wants to hold a meeting to discuss how to divide the spoils." The burly man made no attempt to beat around the bush and stated the matter straight.
"Good. Go on back first — we'll be right there!" Chen Yutian nodded to show he understood.
The burly man said nothing more. The Couple Bandits were simply that sort; he hadn't dealt with them much anyway. The message delivered, he turned and left.
Chen Yutian went back into the tent and relayed the burly man's message to Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan. In fact, the man had not been soft-spoken — Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan had heard every word from inside the tent.
The three of them made a few preparations, stepped out of the tent, and headed for Old Hei's.
Old Hei's tent sat at the outermost edge, where he handled the questioning and security for newcomers, while Wei Zhao's tent was tucked at the very innermost point. By the time Wei Zhao and his companions arrived at Old Hei's tent, everyone else had already gathered.
Given the Couple Bandits' customary manner, they would not have gone out of their way to greet anyone, so Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan simply found seats and sat down, while Chen Yutian stood behind them, acting the part of a personal guard.
Brother Keng was another tomb-raiding gang leader. "Brother Keng" was merely his nickname — as the name suggested, the man's face was covered in pits, seemingly the aftereffect of some illness; in any case, he was hideously ugly!
Master Hao, for his part, was a man in his fifties. According to the files, he was an old grandee of the tomb-raiding trade — venerable and rich in experience. This time, fearing he could not swallow this ancient tomb alone while the others harbored ulterior motives, Old Hei had specially brought in Master Hao to hold down the fort.
The last person was a foreigner called James — though one supposed "James" was only an alias; in this line of work, no one showed their real name.
Foreigners in the antique-smuggling racket were legion, but those who came directly to rob tombs were few — this James was clearly a capable man! Word had it that when the tomb was first discovered, he had been among them, as had Brother Keng; only Master Hao had joined later.
"All right, everyone's here. We're no strangers to each other, no need for introductions. I do want to present to you an outside hire — a name well known in the tomb-raiding world, an heir of the Flying Swallow Sect!" With that, Old Hei waved his hand, and Yu Xiaoke stepped into the tent.
Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan, watching Yu Xiaoke walk in, were stunned for a moment. What was she doing here too?
But when Wei Zhao heard Old Hei mention the Flying Swallow Sect, he suddenly recalled that the first time he had met Yu Xiaoke, the girl had declared herself to be some-odd-generation disciple of the Flying Swallow Sect and challenged him to a bout...
He had never expected Yu Xiaoke to be brought along for this tomb raid as well!
Wei Zhao and Qiu Lingshan exchanged an imperceptible glance. Both were somewhat taken aback, and somewhat on guard — their identities must not be discovered by Yu Xiaoke, or at the very least she must not be allowed to blurt them out in public, or the whole show would be ruined!
"Everyone knows what the Flying Swallow Sect does. As for the traps in this tomb, I believe everyone here understands them — none of us are confident we can handle them, and Liu Bojia won't help us. So we had no choice but to hire outside help!" Old Hei explained. "And before we start tomb-raiding, let's settle the division of spoils first, so we don't end up with disputes later!"
"I approve of that! When people cooperate, there must be rules — otherwise, once greed reddens their eyes, goodwill is lost!" Master Hao was the first to voice his support. He had come here precisely to hold down the fort, so naturally he would side with Old Hei's proposal.
"I agree too. It's better to spell everything out clearly!" Brother Keng nodded as well.
"Without rules, nothing can be done — I agree," James said in his odd accent.
"I have no objections," Wei Zhao said coolly.
"Good. Since no one objects, let us proceed with the division of spoils. I have a proposal — I wonder if anyone has objections?" Old Hei said. "Although we discovered this tomb together, I was the first to obtain the lead. I should rightfully take thirty percent!"
"Hmm, that sounds fair!" Everyone nodded in succession. Every trade had its own rules — as the provider of the crucial lead, Old Hei was naturally entitled to a thirty percent share of the haul.
"And Brother Keng, Master Hao, the Couple Bandits, James — each of you takes fifteen percent. The remaining ten percent goes to this heroine Yan of the Flying Swallow Sect!" Old Hei said. "Of course, the heroine must prove she has real skill to earn it!"
"Agreed." After a moment's deliberation, Brother Keng, Master Hao, and James all nodded. In an ancient tomb as perilous as this, there would certainly be many precious treasures — but without formidable people, they could only stand by the river and sigh; they simply wouldn't be able to get in!
Fifteen percent might sound like little, but when actually calculated, it was still a fortune! And this allocation was obviously the most reasonable — though Old Hei took double, he was the one who had put in the most effort here. Besides, after receiving the information, he had not kept it to himself but shared it with everyone to help locate the tomb's exact position.
"Fifteen percent is too little. I want twenty!" At this point, it was Wei Zhao who spoke up in objection!
Qiu Lingshan was briefly stunned, inwardly vexed at Wei Zhao for stirring up trouble. She thought: even if you asked for a hundred percent, it wouldn't end up yours in the end — so why bother?
But Wei Zhao had already said it, and she could no longer object. All she could do was watch and see how Wei Zhao handled it from here.
"Oh?" Old Hei frowned. He hadn't expected the male half of the Couple Bandits to open his mouth! But this male bandit was not someone he dared to offend — the man's skill, one could say, was scarcely inferior to Liu Bojia or the Flying Swallow Sect. So he asked: "Male bandit, then — how do you say we should divide it?"
"How you divide it among the others is none of my concern. I want twenty percent!" Wei Zhao declared imperiously.
"That..." Old Hei deliberated for a moment. "This allocation is the most reasonable. If you want an extra five percent, I cannot deduct it from anyone else's share — it can only come out of mine. But why should I give you those five percent?"
"How about this: if, inside the tomb, a critical mechanism is broken by me, then you hand over twenty percent. What do you say? If not, then we stick to the original shares!" Wei Zhao proposed.
