Chapter 1020 — Feng Xiaoxiao Throws a Fit
A text message could have been sent at any hour and would only arrive once the phone was switched on, but a phone call had to have been made just now.
Wei Zhao checked the missed calls first. Only one was from Tang Yun; all the rest had actually come from Feng Xiaoxiao!
Wei Zhao was taken aback, but he checked the text messages first anyway, and at the sight of them he was left somewhat speechless — every single one of them had been sent by Feng Xiaoxiao!
"Darling, I miss you!" This one had come in the middle of the night.
"I got up early today, so come pick me up a bit sooner!" This one had come in the morning.
"I'm all ready, heading downstairs now?" Also in the morning.
"Huh? Wei Zhao? Why haven't you replied to my text?" Still the morning.
"Wei Zhao, are you coming to pick me up or not? Why aren't you here yet? We're going to be late!" Again the morning.
"Boohoo, have you forgotten about me?" Morning.
"Your phone is still off, so you really aren't coming to get me..." Morning.
"Wei Zhao, you bastard, if you don't want me anymore at least say so! I got up in the middle of the night to dress up for nothing!" Morning.
"I'm taking a cab to school myself, I can't wait any longer!" Morning.
"Why didn't you come to school today? Where are you? What happened?" This one had come in the forenoon.
"Why is your phone still off? What on earth happened?" Also forenoon.
Wei Zhao smiled bitterly at that long string of messages from Feng Xiaoxiao and slapped his forehead in something like resignation. Only then did he remember that yesterday he had promised Feng Xiaoxiao he would pick her up for school this morning, but Uncle Qing's business had held him up, and he had not gone to school.
And Yunyun? He wondered how she had gotten to school. He checked the messages again, and beneath that great mass of Feng Xiaoxiao's texts he finally found one from Tang Yun.
"Wei Zhao, Uncle Qing came to take me to school this morning. He said you needed rest after healing his injuries. I'm fine, so rest easy!"
Reading Tang Yun's message, Wei Zhao understood. So Uncle Qing had taken her to school that morning. Since Wei Zhao had not gotten up, and Uncle Qing knew that Wei Zhao picked Tang Yun up for school every day, he had naturally taken that duty upon himself. But he knew nothing of this sudden business with Feng Xiaoxiao, and clearly the young miss and Shen Yushu had not thought of Feng Xiaoxiao either.
After all, Feng Xiaoxiao usually drove herself to school. Who could have known that today of all days she would have made an appointment with Wei Zhao?
Wei Zhao sighed and decided to call Feng Xiaoxiao first.
"Wei Zhao, you finally called me! I'm so happy — you called your little wife first!" Feng Xiaoxiao's delighted voice came over the line.
Wei Zhao had meant to apologize to Feng Xiaoxiao; judging by her messages, her grievance ran deep, and he had indeed let her down, making her wait all morning for nothing. But before he could get a word out, Feng Xiaoxiao cried out in high spirits, and the apology that had already reached the tip of his tongue had to be swallowed back down.
"I was healing someone's injuries and lost track of time, so I didn't get up this morning," Wei Zhao said.
"Mm, I know. I knew you wouldn't ignore me for no reason. See, you didn't even bother with your first wife, you called your little wife first! Sister Yunyun is going to be jealous!" Feng Xiaoxiao said happily.
"Xiaoxiao, what nonsense are you talking? Who's jealous?" Tang Yun said, rather helplessly.
She felt nothing in particular about Wei Zhao calling Feng Xiaoxiao first. She had faced this whole matter from the outset with a mind not to compete with Feng Xiaoxiao for his favor. Besides, Feng Xiaoxiao had called Wei Zhao a dozen times and sent over twenty messages, while she had sent only one, and in that message she had made clear that she knew of Wei Zhao's situation. So it was only reasonable that Wei Zhao should call Feng Xiaoxiao first to explain. What was there for Tang Yun to be jealous of?
"Oh? You're with Yunyun?" Wei Zhao was slightly startled, and a little embarrassed. He had called Feng Xiaoxiao first — would Tang Yun be unhappy? But from the sound of it, Tang Yun's voice held nothing unusual; she probably was not angry.
"I couldn't find you, so I had to go look for Sister Yunyun, and only then did I learn you hadn't come to pick me up because you were healing someone," Feng Xiaoxiao said. "Just now Sister Yunyun called you and got through, but you didn't answer, so I called you over and over..."
"Heh..." Wei Zhao shook his head with a smile. Feng Xiaoxiao really did have an optimistic nature — quick to anger, quick to cheer up, and in the blink of an eye she was bubbling with excitement again.
"Are you coming to school this afternoon?" Feng Xiaoxiao asked.
"Mm, I'll be there in a bit," Wei Zhao said.
"Great!" Feng Xiaoxiao's heart surged with excitement. She had gotten up in the middle of the night especially to dress up carefully, meaning to give Wei Zhao a surprise in the morning, yet she had not caught even a glimpse of him, which had left her rather disappointed. If she did not see Wei Zhao today, all that makeup would have been for nothing.
"Put Yunyun on the phone, I want to talk to her," Wei Zhao said to Feng Xiaoxiao. Since Tang Yun was at Feng Xiaoxiao's side, there was no need for him to go to the trouble of calling again.
"Okay. Sister Yunyun, Wei Zhao wants you!" Feng Xiaoxiao readily handed the phone to Tang Yun.
Tang Yun took the phone and could not help laughing. "Wei Zhao, now that you have a little wife, you've forgotten your first wife?"
"Heh, how could I?" Wei Zhao smiled, and he could tell Tang Yun was only joking.
"I'll stop teasing. You're all right, aren't you? If you're tired, don't come this afternoon." Tang Yun was concerned for Wei Zhao. After all, she and Wei Zhao had been a couple for a long time now; there was no need to see him so desperately.
"I'm fine. See you in a bit," Wei Zhao said indifferently.
"All right then, see you in a bit. Is there anything else you need Xiaoxiao for?" Tang Yun asked.
"No, hang up," Wei Zhao said, and hung up.
Tang Yun returned the phone to Feng Xiaoxiao, who happily put it away. "Sister Yunyun, do I still look good? I did my makeup in the morning — I don't need to touch it up, do I?"
"You look lovely already, no need to touch it up," Tang Yun said with a smile.
"Really? That's good..." Feng Xiaoxiao nodded.
Wei Zhao drove to the school and parked in the snack street behind it, alongside Feng Xiaoxiao's car.
Only, beside Feng Xiaoxiao's car there was now another luxury car — a black Lamborghini.
Wei Zhao glanced at the Lamborghini and smiled faintly. Unless he was mistaken, the car belonged to that Xie Yufeng, and judging by how new it looked, it had just been bought — it did not even have its plates on yet.
