Chapter 883 — The Kidnapper Who Changed His Mind

The Blossom Guardian

Yet the last thing Liu Tianyi had ever expected was that Wei Zhao would call him first.

Liu Tianyi drew a deep breath and picked up the phone with great care. "Hello, hello — this is Liu Tianyi."

"Mr. Liu? This is Wei Zhao. Could you lend me a hundred million?" Wei Zhao wasted no words. "If I can't pay it back, I'll give you a pill instead, or treat one of your family free of charge."

"Of course, of course — a mere hundred million? If Divine Doctor Lin has use for it, then by all means take it. Pay it back or don't — what's the point of even mentioning such things? It would be vulgar." Liu Tianyi had been racking his brains over how to get into Wei Zhao's good graces, and now Wei Zhao had called him out of the blue to borrow money!

Liu Tianyi was beside himself with joy — how could he possibly refuse? Whether Wei Zhao ever repaid the money was a matter of secondary importance; getting on good terms with Wei Zhao was the whole point.

"Then thank you in advance. I'll text you an account number; just transfer it over," Wei Zhao said.

"Certainly, no problem at all!" Liu Tianyi agreed in a flurry. In this day and age there were few men who begged others to accept their money, but Liu Tianyi was decidedly one of them — and he did not even want Wei Zhao to pay it back!

Wei Zhao said nothing more and hung up. Gu Pengzhan, however, was staring at him wide-eyed, wearing an expression of disbelief. He had overheard the earlier call to Fatty Lai as well, and when Wei Zhao asked for Liu Tianyi's number, Gu Pengzhan had even thought he had misheard.

Who was Liu Tianyi? The young heir of the Liu family of Yanjing. And Wei Zhao meant to borrow money from him? Had he heard wrong?

But then Wei Zhao called Liu Tianyi directly, and Gu Pengzhan understood that everything he had heard was real. Wei Zhao had indeed borrowed a hundred million from Liu Tianyi, and without the slightest effort or argument; the other man had seemed perfectly happy to lend it to him.

"Uncle Chu, I've borrowed a hundred million from Liu Tianyi first. Don't pull out all of the company's circulating funds — that would probably hurt the company's operations." Wei Zhao looked at a thoroughly astonished Gu Pengzhan and smiled.

"Liu Tianyi? Of the Liu family of Yanjing?" Gu Pengzhan still found it hard to believe.

"That's him." Wei Zhao nodded. "Give me the account, and I'll have him transfer the money over."

Gu Pengzhan drew a deep breath. Who would have thought that Wei Zhao had been in Songshan only a short while and already commanded such formidable connections? No wonder he had never taken the Yu family seriously — he had even dared to kill one of them...

So this was how it was: facing the young heir of another great clan, Wei Zhao had still asked for a hundred million in that calm, unquestionable tone of his — and the man had actually been delighted to lend it to him!

With Liu Tianyi's hundred million in hand, Gu Pengzhan had no trouble raising the remaining hundred and fifty million, and transferred the whole sum to the account the kidnappers had left.

About ten minutes later, the kidnappers called again — still that number made up entirely of zeros.

Gu Pengzhan answered. "Hello?"

"Mr. Gu's credit is quite good — the ransom arrived so quickly!" Zhen Yingjun was rather excited. So the future of a kidnapper was this bright! In one stroke he had raked in two hundred and fifty million; his father, slaving away as a pirate, could not make that much in a year! If he snatched a few more people in the future, wouldn't he soon have more money than he could ever spend?

"When can I see Yao Yao and Xiaoshu?" Hearing that the kidnapper had no intention of going back on his word, Gu Pengzhan let out a breath of relief.

"Since Mr. Gu is so forthcoming, how could I disappoint you? I'll give you an address; you can send Wei Zhao to pick them up," Zhen Yingjun said. "But I hope Mr. Gu remembers my words — don't call the police, or you'll bear the consequences."

"No problem. I only want my daughter and Xiaoshu to be safe and sound," Gu Pengzhan said gravely.

"South Mirror Mountain. At the foot of the mountain there are two cars, a Mercedes-Benz 600 and a Toyota Previa. Have your people follow the mountain road in front of those two cars up," Zhen Yingjun said.

"All right, I've got it." Gu Pengzhan knew of South Mirror Mountain; he had not expected the kidnappers to have taken his daughter to such a desolate place. If the police alone were sent to search, it would not be easy to find at all.

Zhen Yingjun said nothing more and hung up. Now he would simply wait for Wei Zhao to come to the door, and then deal him a fatal blow, leaving him on South Mirror Mountain forever.

The money was already in hand, but the score between Zhen Yingjun and Wei Zhao was far from settled. How much suffering had that creature caused him? He would make him repay it a hundredfold, a thousandfold!

"South Mirror Mountain. Xiaoyi, the other side named you specifically to go and bring Yao Yao and Xiaoshu back..." Gu Pengzhan hesitated, then said to Wei Zhao, "I keep feeling they have some scheme. Otherwise, why not simply release Yao Yao and Xiaoshu, instead of sending you there?"

"Heh. Perhaps they mean to deal with me," Wei Zhao said mildly. "If my judgment is not mistaken, I already know who is behind this."

"Who?" Gu Pengzhan was startled.

"Zhen Yingjun," Wei Zhao said. "It can't be anyone from the Yu family. As things stand, it can only be someone from the Zhen family."

"The Zhen family? The Zhen family of Donghai? Zhen Dazhou? When did you go and provoke a man like that?" Gu Pengzhan was taken aback; he had no dealings with Zhen Dazhou, let alone any grudge.

Wei Zhao briefly recounted to Gu Pengzhan what had happened that day in the billiard room, told him of Zhen Yingjun's lecherous designs on Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, and how Wei Zhao had dealt with him after they left.

Gu Pengzhan shook his head, with a wry smile. He did not blame Wei Zhao, because strictly speaking, this trouble had been stirred up by Shen Yushu, and had little to do with Wei Zhao.

"Xiaoyi, what you mean to say is that besides the money, they also want to get at you?" Gu Pengzhan mused for a moment, his expression somewhat grave.

"That's how it looks. It was Xiaoshu who asked me to do it, but I was the one who carried it out, so Zhen Yingjun will surely hate me to the bone. I'd wager that skilled hand of his is waiting for me on the mountain." Wei Zhao shrugged. "It's far from the city; whatever happens there, no one will notice. A fine place to kill a man."

"In that case, how could I let you walk into danger?" Now that Gu Pengzhan understood the cause and effect, he shook his head vehemently. Anxious as he was about his daughter's safety, he could not let Wei Zhao go to his death.
