Chapter 875 — Uncle Qing's Injuries
The policeman saw that Wei Zhao not only knew Qiu Lingshan's name but also knew Liu Wangli—plainly he had been sent by Qiu Lingshan, no doubt about it—so he stopped blocking his way. Seeing Liu Wangli come over, he went off to attend to his own business.
"Wei Zhao, you're here. Captain Song is over there!" Liu Wangli said, pointing into the distance.
"Where's Uncle Qing? Take me to him!" Wei Zhao was in no hurry to find Qiu Lingshan; what worried him was Uncle Qing's injuries. Qiu Lingshan had said Uncle Qing was badly hurt, that he probably would not make it. That was why Wei Zhao was so frantic—otherwise he would never have driven the car so fast.
"This way!" Seeing how anxious Wei Zhao was, Liu Wangli's expression turned grave. He took no offense at Wei Zhao's near-commanding tone, for Liu Wangli knew that Wei Zhao had likely had a hand in those major cases the bureau had cracked not long ago, and given how delicate Wei Zhao's relationship with Qiu Lingshan was, Liu Wangli had more or less come to regard Wei Zhao as Qiu Lingshan's boyfriend.
When Wei Zhao saw Uncle Qing on the stretcher, his face fell at once. From the look of him, Uncle Qing was in a very bad way.
"Leave this to me. Everyone go back and rest," Wei Zhao said as he walked over to the several paramedics busy at work.
The paramedics had no idea who Wei Zhao was. Hearing him speak, they glanced at him in some puzzlement, but made no move to leave.
"You can go back. Just leave this for him to handle," Liu Wangli said, speaking up for Wei Zhao, for he knew Wei Zhao was no ordinary man.
"Sorry, officer. Saving lives is our duty. Until we receive orders from our superiors, we cannot leave," the lead paramedic said, walking over to Liu Wangli.
"Are you from the First People's Hospital or the Second? I'll speak to your director," Wei Zhao said, anxious at heart. It was not that Wei Zhao did not trust these paramedics—it was that they simply could not save Uncle Qing.
"The First People's Hospital." The paramedic made no secret of it. He was not sure who Wei Zhao was, but without orders from above, he could not leave.
Wei Zhao quickly dialed Guan Xuemin's number, explained the situation to him, and then asked for the paramedic's cell number.
When the paramedic heard that Wei Zhao was calling Guan Xuemin, he was momentarily stunned. "Excuse me, are you calling Professor Guan Xuemin?"
"Yes. You know him?" Wei Zhao asked, delighted.
"What doctor in Songshan City doesn't know Professor Guan?" the doctor said. "Were you sent by Professor Guan?"
Wei Zhao breathed a sigh of relief and handed the phone straight to the paramedic. "I'm Guan Xuemin's disciple. Leave this to me—let Old Guan explain it to you."
The paramedic took the phone. Hearing Guan Xuemin's words, he nodded at once and said yes again and again. Guan Xuemin told him that Wei Zhao was his disciple, that the matter here was to be left to Wei Zhao for the time being, and that he would immediately call Director Qin of the hospital.
With Guan Xuemin's word, the paramedic was set at ease. Not long after he hung up, the director's call came in.
"Director Qin, hello, this is Xiao Liu!" The paramedic hurriedly answered. "Yes... yes, I understand. We will do everything to assist Dr. Wei Zhao!"
Director Qin had called to tell him to do his utmost to meet Wei Zhao's demands and to assist Wei Zhao in saving the man. With the director's word, Xiao Liu naturally had nothing more to worry about.
Wei Zhao bent down and made a brief examination of Uncle Qing's injuries, and could not help drawing a sharp breath.
Indeed, Uncle Qing still had a breath left in him and was not dead. But it was by no means because his opponent lacked the strength to kill him—it was deliberate, a breath left to him on purpose. Judging by the wounds, the opponent had struck only once. That is, the opponent's strength far surpassed Uncle Qing's; had he wished to take Uncle Qing's life, it would have been an easy thing.
But the man had not done so. Clearly he did not want Uncle Qing to die outright. He had probably said a few words to Uncle Qing after the strike—but most likely, too, his aim was to make Wei Zhao expend his true qi healing Uncle Qing, thereby dropping Wei Zhao's strength by a whole level.
To save him, or not? For a moment Wei Zhao hesitated.
By feeling, Uncle Qing had always been good to him. Ever since he first came to Songshan City, Uncle Qing had been unfailingly kind, treating him as one of the household in the villa. So Wei Zhao did not want anything to happen to Uncle Qing. But by reason, Wei Zhao knew that to expend his "energy" healing Uncle Qing now would be an unwise move.
The enemy had formidable hands among them. If he spent his "energy" healing Uncle Qing, his own strength would surely suffer, and then he might not even be able to save Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.
Energy could be easily obtained in the jade pendant's space, true, but it took cycles and time, and Wei Zhao did not know whether there would be enough of either.
Wei Zhao gritted his teeth. Save the man first. At least until he had word of Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, he could not stand by and watch a man die.
A few silver needles appeared in Wei Zhao's hand, and he swiftly inserted them into several acupoints on Uncle Qing's body, then inwardly set the mental cultivation method of the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art in motion. This time it was much the same as when he had healed Liu Bojia: Wei Zhao used the silver needles to seal several of Uncle Qing's meridians. He meant to use energy to keep Uncle Qing alive for now—but he had no intention of curing him outright.
For Wei Zhao knew very well how terrifying the amount of energy required to save a man gravely wounded and on the brink of death would be. He would probably cure Uncle Qing and then fall into an automatic sleep state—and to do that now was undoubtedly dangerous.
For now, Wei Zhao could only use a small portion of his energy to keep Uncle Qing alive. So long as his life was preserved, once this business was over Wei Zhao would have all the time in the world to treat him. Whether Uncle Qing's martial skill could be preserved, though, was another matter.
An external-school expert wounded so severely was likely ruined for good. Wei Zhao could use energy to create a high-level Yellow-rank dog, but he could not use energy to create a Yellow-rank expert. The energy required for a man and for a dog were worlds apart. Creating a high-level Yellow-rank dog would force Wei Zhao into a dormant state—let alone creating a Yellow-rank expert. If he could, Feng Xiaoxiao would have become a Yellow-rank expert long ago.
Moreover, Uncle Qing was an external-school expert. Even if he had energy enough to create a Yellow-rank expert, it would be of no use to Uncle Qing—because what an external-school expert needed was not energy, but years upon years of body tempering.
