Chapter 828 — Young Master Jun's Designs
Since Wei Zhao's manner toward the two women was not especially familiar, and since he already had a girlfriend, Zou Ruoguang did not show Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu the deference he had shown Tang Yun. After greeting Wei Zhao, he took his leave.
"Brother Zou, you know that kid? What's his background, to deserve such bowing and scraping?" Zhen Yingjun's gaze lingered on Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu as he asked, a little envious of Wei Zhao. With his years of experience chasing women, he could tell at a glance that these two were top-notch.
One was fresh and lovely, the other petite and cute. Though they were only wearing ordinary sportswear, it couldn't hide the beauty of either.
Zou Ruoguang was a few years older than Zhen Yingjun, so Zhen Yingjun called him Brother Zou.
"His name is Wei Zhao. He's extremely skilled in martial arts, not someone to provoke!" Zou Ruoguang felt it sounded like he was cowering, but in front of Wei Zhao, he could not put on airs.
"Skilled in martial arts? What good does that do?" Zhen Yingjun said dismissively. "No matter how skilled, he can't beat numbers. No need to give a guy like that so much face!"
"Numbers?" Zou Ruoguang laughed bitterly. "Let me put it this way—our family's Yellow-rank expert, Uncle Yan, was injured by him..."
"A brawler with no future." Zhen Yingjun remained contemptuous. "Even if he can beat a Yellow-rank expert, can he be better than guns and cannons? Absolutely impossible!"
Zhen Yingjun's family also ran with the underworld, and on a considerably larger scale than Zou Tiandi's. They had no shortage of illegal firearms. To his way of thinking, martial arts were all nonsense—worthless in the face of guns.
Zou Ruoguang shrugged. Since Zhen Yingjun would not believe him, there was nothing he could say. After all, the two families were only cooperating now, with the Zhen family holding sway; if he said too much, it would seem as though he had some ulterior motive.
"Those two chicks are pretty good-looking. His women?" Zhen Yingjun asked, his curiosity piqued.
"I don't think so." Zou Ruoguang shook his head. "Wei Zhao has a girlfriend. I've seen her."
"Oh, so just ordinary friends, then?" Zhen Yingjun nodded. "I've taken a liking to those two!"
"Young Master Jun, if you pursue them by proper means, that's fine, but you'd better not use force. I'm afraid Wei Zhao might get involved..." Zou Ruoguang felt he had to remind Zhen Yingjun.
"I know. I've picked up countless girls in my day. Two little girls like that will be easy pickings." Zhen Yingjun paid no attention to Zou Ruoguang's words. In fact, he had never given Wei Zhao a second thought.
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu played video games for a while, only to find them boring. It was either pure racing or pure fighting and shooting, with no fun at all—not even as good as the TV game consoles at home.
"Sister Yaoyao, how's it going over there? How many levels have you cleared?" Shen Yushu spent her last token, then stood up a little listlessly. "These games are really no fun. It's just one person hitting and hitting over and over. What's the point?"
"I don't know. It seems I haven't cleared a single level?" Gu Mengyao wasn't much of a gamer either. She was playing a side-scrolling platform game, but after a long while she was still on the first level, while the tokens in her hand had run low.
Wei Zhao found it somewhat amusing to watch. This arcade could only fleece greenhorns like them. A skilled player could loop the game with a single token; at that rate, the arcade wouldn't even make back the electricity bill, let alone turn a profit.
"This is boring. Let's go look at some other machines." Shen Yushu stood up, giving up on playing any longer.
"All right." Gu Mengyao had come with the intention of broadening her horizons and life experience; whether she played well didn't matter.
Wei Zhao didn't play either, simply following behind Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. Though he had never played many of these games, most of them tested a person's reaction speed, which was no challenge for Wei Zhao.
"There are a lot of people over there. Let's go see what it is?" Shen Yushu noticed that one corner of the arcade drew an unusually large crowd, with people occasionally letting out cheers or groans.
When Wei Zhao, Gu Mengyao, and Shen Yushu walked over, they found several gambling machines. They came in all shapes and forms, but they had one sole purpose—they were all gambling in nature.
This kind of thing was already illegal. Yet the profits were so enormous that they formed the main source of income for many arcades, so it was no wonder Zou Ruoguang risked operating them in defiance of the law.
Though some people did win money, most came away with more lost than won. Only a few made small gains; the majority left with their heads hanging.
"Sister Yaoyao, this looks kind of fun? Let's give it a try?" Shen Yushu found these machines far more entertaining than the monster-fighting games.
"Xiaoshu, this looks like gambling. You can't play." Gu Mengyao, however, saw through it at once, recognizing the true nature of the machines.
"I'll just play a little, just to try it out. It's not like I'll get hooked." Shen Yushu was curious.
"Let her try." Wei Zhao was fairly confident in Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu's self-restraint. The two girls had no bad habits and never became obsessed with anything. He thought Shen Yushu was merely amusing herself for the moment; after a few tries she would lose interest.
After all, they did not lack money, nor did they care for it, so they would hardly take any thrill in winning or losing.
"Oh, but Brother Jianpai already said it's okay..." Shen Yushu looked at Gu Mengyao with a pitiful expression.
"Then use these last few tokens. When they're gone, no more playing." Gu Mengyao hesitated for a moment before handing the remaining tokens in her hand to Shen Yushu.
Shen Yushu took the tokens and went off to play the gambling machines in high spirits.
Expecting to win money with just a few tokens was obviously unrealistic. The result was much as Wei Zhao had predicted: Shen Yushu put four or five tokens in, and they all vanished into thin air. Now only the last token was left.
"Ahhh, I've lost them all just like that?" Shen Yushu stared at the last token in her hand, rather disgruntled. "At least let me win once!"
Wei Zhao shrugged. He knew many things, but he could not control a gambling machine. Such electronic devices certainly had a control terminal, and in such a short time there was no way Wei Zhao could find that terminal and modify the data.
