Chapter 817 — Three Diamond Cards

The Blossom Guardian

"I think so?" Wei Zhao began rummaging through his wallet.

The guard blinked. He thought so? Well, did he or didn't he? But puzzled as he was, he showed no trace of contempt — which said a great deal for the quality of the Gu Group's employee training.

Gu Mengyao found it rather amusing. Even without a VIP card, Wei Zhao had only to call Qing Bo and he would be let in — and besides, didn't he have a membership card? But one glance at Gou Huli, not far off, and she understood his intent: he was deliberately toying with the woman.

Sure enough, when Gou Huli saw Wei Zhao, after the guard's question, begin "putting on a show" of hunting for his membership card, she found it hilarious beyond words. She got out of the car and came swaying toward the barrier.

The heavy makeup on Gou Huli's face had been washed clean by Gu Mengyao's and Shen Yushu's water guns earlier; in the car she had been forced to wipe off what remained with wet wipes. With no makeup to hide behind, the marks of time on her face were plain for all to see — she was past thirty now, no longer young. But she had risen from mistress to lawful wife by marrying into a wealthy family, and so she carried an indescribable sense of superiority, the feeling of a sparrow turned phoenix that had shot straight to the heavens; she always wanted to display how different she was.

"What are you looking for? Your membership card for this place?" Gou Huli watched Wei Zhao rummaging about with a cold smile, and said to the parking lot guard, "Don't wait for him. Just throw him out. I've seen plenty of these people who have nothing but still want to show off. He'll pretend to search for ages, then tell you he left his membership card at home, then drive off coolly as if nothing had happened. The truth is he never had a membership card at all!"

The guard was speechless. What business is it of yours whether he has a card or not? You don't even know him, do you? You keep shooting your mouth off here — if he gets out and hits you, am I supposed to stop him or not?

The guard had seen people who forgot their cards before, and he always treated them with respect. Who was to say whether they really had forgotten it?

"I think I left mine at home." Wei Zhao shrugged and looked at the guard apologetically.

"Ha!" Gou Huli burst out laughing at his words. "Wahahahaha! Guard, what did I tell you? They don't have membership cards, do they? I told you they were here to show off, that they didn't really have cards, and I told you to throw them out, and you didn't believe me. Well? Was I wrong? Don't be fooled because the three of them came in a car — they're low-class people. The man in front is a gardener, the two women in back are little housemaids, slaves and servants, all of them. How could they shop in a place this classy?"

"Oh, I think my membership card is above the sun visor on the passenger side. Let me look." Shen Yushu, small as she was, leaned forward from the back seat and began searching the passenger-side sun visor.

But Gu Mengyao took a membership card from her purse and handed it to the guard, smiling. "Use mine."

Gu Mengyao had seen earlier that Wei Zhao's wallet did contain a membership card, yet he insisted he could not find it — clearly he was toying with Gou Huli, baiting her into getting out of the car to run her mouth. So Gu Mengyao was happy to produce her own card and give Gou Huli a slap in the face.

Sure enough, when Gou Huli saw Gu Mengyao take out a membership card, her expression changed at once. This little housemaid had a membership card? How could that be? She hurriedly said, "Hey, guard, look carefully. Don't let them fool you. They're low-class people — how could they possibly have a membership card for this place?"

The guard saw that Gu Mengyao was very pretty and her smile was sweet, and he felt favorably disposed toward her at once. He thought: your card is real, so hers must be fake? What kind of logic is that?

Just then, Shen Yushu found her membership card too and handed it to the guard. "I found mine as well..."

The guard could not help but start. He looked at Shen Yushu's card — it was a diamond card too! He was genuinely a little frightened. What sort of customers were these, to have two diamond membership cards?!

Though the guard was one of the lowest-ranking employees in the group, he received members every day in the parking lot who came to shop at the Pengzhan Commercial Tower, and he had seen a great many membership cards. He knew very well how rare diamond cards were; sometimes days would pass without a single diamond card appearing here.

And today, the passengers in this unremarkable Beetle had produced two diamond cards!

But the real surprise was yet to come. Wei Zhao also took a membership card from his wallet and handed it to the guard, smiling. "Sorry, I found mine too. Though now it seems we won't be needing it?"

The guard looked at Wei Zhao's card — a diamond card as well! He was dumbstruck. No way? Three diamond membership cards, how was that possible? He could hardly believe his eyes. He rubbed them, found he had not been mistaken, and said in astonishment, "All three are diamond membership cards? One would have been enough. There's no need for so many..."

"What?!" Gou Huli had heard the guard too, and she froze. But she would never believe that Wei Zhao and the others could produce three membership cards. She cried out in flat disbelief, "Hahahaha, how fake is that? Three diamond cards? How could that be? Who are you trying to fool? The Pengzhan Commercial Tower has only issued a few dozen diamond membership cards in total. How could you possibly have three? Guard, do you think that's even possible?"

The guard was puzzled, and shaken by Wei Zhao and the others as well, because he too found it hard to believe that the people in one car could produce three membership cards. But the cards looked no different from the real thing, so although he was astonished, he betrayed no sign of anything amiss.

After all, whether a membership card was genuine could be settled with a single swipe through the machine, so there was no hurry to judge.

"Sir, miss, one card is all we need..." The guard took the card from Gu Mengyao, who had handed hers over first, and swiped it through the machine beside him. At once the card's tier and the cardholder's detailed information appeared on the screen.

But the guard had only glanced at the cardholder's name when his eyes went wide and he was struck speechless. RO
