Chapter 687 — Ruining a Good Thing; As Long as She Doesn't Go Too Far, He Might as Well Leave Her Alone, Right?

The Blossom Guardian

In Tang Yun's eyes, the rival she now faced was the young lady of the house; as for Guan Xin, she could not really be counted a rival yet.

After Guan Xin finished preparing the medicines for several wards and delivered them herself, she returned to the nurses' duty room and only then said to Kang Xiaobo and the others, "I'm done. I can take Xiaofen for her follow-up now."

"All right, shall we go now?" Kang Xiaobo rose to his feet.

"No need. I'll just take Xiaofen myself — you don't have to come." Guan Xin did not want Kang Xiaobo along, because Xiaofen's mental illness had been brought on by another man, and the doctor would likely ask sensitive questions during the follow-up, questions that would be awkward for Kang Xiaobo to hear and embarrassing for them both. At that thought, Guan Xin decided against bringing him.

"Well... that works too. Sorry to trouble you, then!" Kang Xiaobo was no fool; seeing the look on Guan Xin's face, he had guessed something of what lay behind it, and so did not insist.

In her heart Xiaofen was grateful for Guan Xin's thoughtfulness. She too did not want Kang Xiaobo to come along, for in order to get a full picture the doctor sometimes asked questions that made one squirm — there had even been questions about how many times she had slept with Kang Zhaoming — and such talk was truly not fit for Kang Xiaobo's ears.

Tang Yun sensed Guan Xin's thoughtfulness as well. A girl like that could hardly help drawing a boy's affection — but what could she do about it? She could hardly forbid Wei Zhao from seeing her. Tang Yun was torn! She had finally let her heart stir, so why did the road have to be so rough?

She had thought that with her looks, finding a boy who would love her wholeheartedly would not be hard. And that much was true — he did treat her well. But not one of the girls around him was inferior to her; by any overall measure, some were even better. Tang Yun truly did not know how to cope with it. She had not a shred of experience.

Watching Guan Xin's back as she went out, Tang Yun sighed softly. Why was she so unlucky? Every rival was so formidable — was she even allowed any peace of mind?

Liu Xinwen saw the dejection in Tang Yun's face and patted her shoulder. "What, tangled up in knots again?"

"Who, me?" How could Tang Yun ever admit it? In front of her good friend, how could she show weakness?

"Don't tell me you're not. Ever since you saw Guan Xin, I've felt something was off with you." Liu Xinwen knew Tang Yun quite well. "Say, Yunyun, how far have you and Wei Zhao actually gotten? Tell me the truth."

"How far could we have gotten? We're only high schoolers, all right? Holding hands at most." Tang Yun was a little shy, but she attributed the lack of progress between her and Wei Zhao to the fact that they were still in school.

"High school? People in middle school are already sleeping together. Yunyun, are you even keeping up? Have you ever been online? A few days ago at Fatty Lai's place you were talking up such a storm — so it was all a bluff!" Liu Xinwen was rather disappointed.

"Aren't they bluffing too? I don't believe they'd dare do that... that threesome thing with Wei Zhao!" Tang Yun felt aggrieved. If not for Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, would she ever have said so many shameless things?

"Gu Mengyao, hard to say. But that Shen Yushu — she just might. The way she looks, she's practically itching to try." Liu Xinwen was a good judge of people. "I'm telling you, Yunyun, you'd better keep a close eye on Wei Zhao, or when the time comes you won't even find a place to cry."

"If he wants to be with someone else, how could I stop him?" Tang Yun shook her head, full of uncertainty about the future.

"You... there's really no talking to you. With that temperament of yours, you'll come out the loser sooner or later. By the time someone's already in bed with Wei Zhao, you probably still won't know a thing!" Liu Xinwen was helpless, exasperated by her friend's failure to live up to her potential.

"If he likes sleeping around, what can I do about it?" Tang Yun seemed to be asking Liu Xinwen in return, and also asking herself. But once the question was out, she shook her head again. Never mind. These things were too vexing.

The two of them chatted, and Kang Xiaobo could not get a word in. He could only sit to one side and pretend not to hear.

And this was the great campus belle Tang! Kang Xiaobo had never imagined that even she would fret over gains and losses for a man. The boss was really something else!

Zhu Xiaozhang registered Kang Zhaoming downstairs, then hurried off to the outpatient clinic, where Wang Shubin and Kang Zhaoming were already waiting.

The hospital had a long line at registration, but Zhu Xiaozhang was a piece of work — he cut straight to the front. When people called him out, he got belligerent and threatened to hit them, which shut his critics up quickly enough. After all, Zhu Xiaozhang was fat-faced, big-eared, and built like a tower — who would want to provoke him? If he wanted to cut in, let him cut in...

Zhu Xiaozhang felt no shame at all — quite the opposite, he took pride in it. Only this way, he thought, was he worthy of the title "Arrogant Bro."

Kang Zhaoming saw the doctor. His ailment was in fact very simple — an ordinary cold brought on by wind-cold — and the doctor prescribed him medicine. But Kang Zhaoming insisted on being hospitalized.

In truth, his illness could go either way — admitted or not. But seeing how severe his fever was, and how he insisted on being hospitalized, the doctor wrote him in for three days. In any case, this young gentleman looked wealthy, and the doctor had no intention of saving him money.

Doctor's orders in hand, Kang Zhaoming went off joyfully to find Guan Xin for his injection. This was quite an ordeal for him; in fact, with those orders he could have found someone to give him the shot at any general surgery nurses' duty room or treatment room. But he had come for Guan Xin, so naturally it was Guan Xin he wanted.

"Young Master Ming, hold on, we're almost at Guan Xin's floor. Just hang in there a little longer..." Seeing that Kang Zhaoming's fever had turned his legs to jelly and he could barely walk steadily, Wang Shubin hurried to cheer him on.

"All right, I'll hold on!" Kang Zhaoming gritted his teeth and finally made it upstairs. Just as he was about to reach Guan Xin's nurses' duty room, he saw Guan Xin come out of it together with a girl — but the girl beside Guan Xin made him start. Instinctively, he stopped in his tracks.

"Young Master Ming, isn't that Xiaofen, that little slut? What's she doing with Guan Xin?" Zhu Xiaozhang had seen Xiaofen come out with Guan Xin too, and he found it strange.

"Yeah, how could she know Guan Xin?" Wang Shubin was baffled as well.

"Damn, now I remember — Kang Xiaobo seemed to know Guan Xuemin last time. So it's no wonder Xiaofen knows Guan Xuemin's granddaughter!" Kang Zhaoming's mind had finally sparked for once, and he had guessed wrong. Xiaofen and Guan Xin had not met through Guan Xuemin at all.

"That makes sense!" Zhu Xiaozhang nodded. "But this is trouble. Do we go over or not?"

"That slut, always ruining my good thing. Damn her — why didn't she get run over and killed back then?" Kang Zhaoming said hatefully. "Going over now is definitely out. If Guan Xin finds out about me and Xiaofen, what's the point of me courting her?"
