Chapter 579 — Spy Shu 007

The Blossom Guardian

If Wei Zhao had truly loved Tang Yun, then even if she were no longer beautiful, he would never turn his back on her now. But if all Wei Zhao had ever wanted was her beauty, then he would most likely just stand by and let it happen.

Mother Tang knew her daughter's heart as well, and she could not help but sigh. It seemed that whether Wei Zhao would stand by her daughter was, in the end, a matter for fate alone...

Seeing how resolute Tang Yun was, Liu Xinwen could hardly refuse her. She picked up the phone again and dialed Wei Zhao's number...

The last class of the afternoon was a study period. Gu Mengyao was bent over a review guide for the college entrance exams when Shen Yushu whispered beside her, "Yaoyao, I've got good news and bad news for you. Which one do you want to hear first?"

"Whichever..." Gu Mengyao said flatly.

"Yaoyao, how can you be so indifferent..." Shen Yushu was a little disappointed that Gu Mengyao seemed to have no interest at all.

"Your good news and your bad news are always more or less the same, so it makes no difference which one I hear." After all these years, Gu Mengyao knew Shen Yushu well; her good news and bad news alike were just ordinary news with a bit of exaggeration thrown on top. She had been fooled into excitement a few times before, but now Gu Mengyao took it all without turning a hair.

"This one's different — it's about Arrow Bro!" Shen Yushu said in a low, mysterious voice.

"Oh?" Gu Mengyao's brow lifted, almost imperceptibly, and then she said, still flatly, "What about Wei Zhao? What good news could he possibly have?"

"Heh heh." Seeing that Gu Mengyao was interested, Shen Yushu smiled and went on: "The good news is, I heard Wei Zhao and Tang Yun have broken up. Yaoyao, you've got your chance!"

Gu Mengyao looked speechless on the surface, yet inside, was she a little pleased? Pleased? She could not say for certain either. "How is that good news? If anyone has a chance, it's you — you've kissed him, and he's seen you without a stitch on."

"I'd like to, but if the first wife hasn't made her move, the little wife can't jump the queue, can she?" Shen Yushu said offhandedly. "You've kissed him too — indirectly!"

"...Let's not talk about that." Gu Mengyao did not want to bring it up, yet somehow that disgust she had felt back then had faded without her noticing. Remembering how violently she had reacted at the time, she instead felt a faint sweetness. "So what's the bad news you mentioned?"

"That Feng Xiaoxiao — she seems to be Arrow Bro's new girlfriend!" Shen Yushu said.

"How do you know? Where did you get that from? Why didn't I know?" Gu Mengyao was puzzled.

"Don't forget, I'm Spy Shu 007!" Shen Yushu said smugly. "One little inquiry and I had it all."

Gu Mengyao could not help but laugh: "Spy Shu? More like Cheap Shu. Look at that face of yours — are you sweet on Wei Zhao or not?"

"Me? Not at all. It's obviously Yaoyao who likes him. As the little wife, I can only train myself to like him too," Shen Yushu said.

"...Look." Gu Mengyao glanced at Shen Yushu, then fixed her eyes back on the review material in front of her — though for a long while she did not turn another page...

Shen Yushu, meanwhile, pulled out a workbook and began flipping through it at speed, from time to time scribbling in it with her pen...

Gu Mengyao frowned. Her best friend really did have a mind no ordinary person could understand.

Wei Zhao had decided to skip the evening lecture and go over to Tang Yun's place. Just then the phone in his pocket began to buzz. He took it out and saw that it was actually Liu Xinwen calling.

"Hello?" Wei Zhao answered.

"Wei Zhao, this is Liu Xinwen." Liu Xinwen drew a deep breath, her tone unfriendly. Though Tang Yun was watching her at that very moment, Liu Xinwen could not hold her feelings in check. Tang Yun was her good friend, after all, so no matter how formidable this heartbreaker Wei Zhao might be, she would speak up for Tang Yun. That was simply the kind of person Liu Xinwen was.

Earlier, if Young Master Bing and his lot had not run off so fast, Liu Xinwen would have gone after them with a cleaver in hand. She was the impulsive sort who never gave a thought to consequences — and fiercely loyal with it.

"Liu Xinwen? Is something the matter?" Wei Zhao was slightly taken aback, unable to see why she would come looking for him at this hour.

"Something's happened to Tang Yun. She's at the First People's Hospital. Her forehead is injured — eight stitches. Barring the unexpected, she's disfigured..." Liu Xinwen was about to ask whether this heartbreaker Wei Zhao would still stand by Tang Yun, but he cut her off.

"What? Tang Yun's hurt? Wait for me — I'm on my way!" Without even letting Liu Xinwen finish, Wei Zhao rushed out of the classroom with the phone in his hand.

Tang Yun was the first girlfriend Wei Zhao had ever truly had. He was not a man given to sweet talk, but in his heart he had long since made Tang Yun his woman. That Tang Yun had been hurt made his heart clench tight: "Does she have any other injuries? How serious is it? Which room are you in?"

Wei Zhao's rapid-fire questions left Liu Xinwen stunned. Before making the call, she had prepared several scenarios for how it might go — but every one of them had been built on Wei Zhao being cold, evasive, or unwilling. She had never imagined he would be so frantic. She had not even finished explaining what had happened, and he was already coming!

Still, it set her heart at ease. This Wei Zhao — he was not so detestable after all! At least he truly worried about Tang Yun, unlike that Kang Zhaoming with Xiao Fen, who had treated her as a plaything and never gave her any real feeling.

And so, in Liu Xinwen's mind, Wei Zhao became forgivable. Plenty of rich young men could not freely choose their own marriages; perhaps they had found true love, but under the threats and pressure of their families they had no choice but to give it up and be with the partner the family arranged.

To Liu Xinwen's way of thinking, that Feng Xiaoxiao's family background was probably out of the ordinary as well, and could help Wei Zhao. That was why he had no choice but to be with her — and, under pressure from Feng Xiaoxiao, to give up Tang Yun.

"Room 512, the Second Inpatient Building." Liu Xinwen gave him the room number. "There are no other injuries. She's just disfigured..."

"I understand." Wei Zhao breathed a sigh of relief, though his heart was still uneasy. How on earth had it come to this?

After hanging up on Wei Zhao, Liu Xinwen saw Tang Yun staring at her without blinking, and she knew at once: in her heart, Tang Yun still could not let Wei Zhao go, and she was desperate to know what he thought of her now.
