Chapter 508 — How About You Sponsor Me a Bit?

The Blossom Guardian Page 1 of 2

"In that case, I'll just have the blowfish!" Naturally, Feng Xiaoxiao was not about to call Wu Chengtian and Xiao Wangba out. Instead, she said to Xiao Wangba, "Brother Wangba, since you've even eaten crested ibis before, this blowfish must be nothing special to you. Won't you let me have it?"

"Huh?" Xiao Wangba had been drooling over that blowfish all along, but with Wu Chengtian yet to lift his chopsticks, he couldn't very well reach for it himself. At Feng Xiaoxiao's words, he was suddenly caught in a dilemma.

"What's wrong, Brother Wangba? Why the long face? Surely you're not unwilling to part with it?" Feng Xiaoxiao blinked, gazing at Xiao Wangba with an innocent, winsome look.

"Of course not! He's just surprised that you'd treat such junk as treasure, haha. Right, Wangba?" Wu Chengtian shot Xiao Wangba another glare.

"Yes, yes!" But Xiao Wangba's heart was bleeding. He wished he could slap himself hard across the mouth — why on earth had he been so loose-tongued?

"Brother Wangdao doesn't want his either, right? Give it all to me, then?" Feng Xiaoxiao asked.

Xiao Wangdao had been secretly rejoicing that he hadn't run his mouth, figuring he'd still get a chance to enjoy the delicacies soon. He never imagined that even without saying a word, Feng Xiaoxiao would come at him on her own initiative! He was so vexed he wanted to ask her: Can you even finish all that? But for Wu Chengtian's sake, he could only part with his beloved food, painful as it was. "Of course — it's all yours. Just don't overdo it, now. Seafood is tricky; eat too much of it and your stomach will act up."

"Oh, that's all right. An upset stomach is even better — once I've finished in the bathroom, I'll just keep eating!" Feng Xiaoxiao said with utter gravity. "That's just the way to empty out some space in my stomach!"

"Pfft..." Wei Zhao nearly couldn't hold it in. This Feng Xiaoxiao really was something — she'd say anything! But then, remembering how she'd even dared to march into the men's restroom, Wei Zhao no longer found it surprising. Still, watching her from the vantage point of an onlooker today, he did find that Feng Xiaoxiao had an adorable side.

Wu Chengtian's appetite vanished on the spot. The sight of a table laden with delicacies now simply turned his stomach. Here was a spread he himself had not even had a taste of — even if all the finest seafood went to Feng Xiaoxiao, he ought at least to get a bite of the other signature dishes, shouldn't he? And yet, with Feng Xiaoxiao carrying on about toilets and diarrhea, how was he supposed to choke anything down?

Wu Chengtian was annoyed with himself for having brought the Xiao brothers along. Useless creatures — they could accomplish nothing, yet they could always ruin everything! A pair of blockheads! But on second thought, from another angle, having these two blockheads around could at least temper his ability to improvise and show off. "Adversity produces talent" — there was some truth to that saying after all!

"You're not eating these lobsters either, are you? Then they're mine as well!" Feng Xiaoxiao polished off three abalones in just a few swift mouthfuls. Where she managed to put it all was anyone's guess — even if seafood didn't take up much room, the sheer amount she'd consumed was astonishing!

"All right, they're all yours. Eat slowly!" Having said that, Wu Chengtian turned his gaze to Wei Zhao. "Now, Brother Wei Zhao, don't mind your old brother saying so, but you really have been shortchanging your girlfriend, haven't you? How could you treat her like that?"

Excited, Wu Chengtian quite forgot himself and went straight to showing off in front of Wei Zhao. It seemed he was so accustomed to showing off that "every word that came out of his mouth was a show-off."

"I'm poor. How about you sponsor me a bit? Then I could take her out to eat every day." Wei Zhao shrugged.

Only then did Wu Chengtian realize he had chosen the wrong audience for his swagger. How could he have said such a thing to Wei Zhao? Regret washed over him at once, and he thought to himself, Am I an idiot? Sponsor you a bit? What's it to me whether you treat her or not?

Still, all he could say aloud was, "Ha, that's easily done! We'll simply have to eat together often from now on."

Feng Xiaoxiao, for her part, paid no heed to any of that. Going at it with both hands, she ate whatever tasted good, her little lips slick with grease. Before the red wine had even been served, she had already wolfed down two crabs, three lobsters, and three abalones — a rate that was simply astonishing.

By the time the red wine finally arrived, half the seafood on the table had been wiped out by Feng Xiaoxiao, leaving Wu Chengtian feeling like weeping without tears. Red wine was meant to go with seafood — and with all the seafood gone, what the hell was left for him to drink it with?

Once the waiter had poured red wine for everyone, Wu Chengtian raised his glass with a studied air of ceremony. "Wei Zhao, come — let me toast you and Feng Xiaoxiao. May you enjoy a hundred years of harmony together!"

"Oh, sure, just a sec — let me get this crab claw down first." Feng Xiaoxiao hastily finished a crab claw before raising her glass.

Wei Zhao saw Wu Chengtian shoot Xiao Wangba a meaningful glance, whereupon Xiao Wangba took out his phone and aimed it at him and Feng Xiaoxiao. It was only then that Wei Zhao understood what Wu Chengtian was really up to. So that was it — the fellow wanted to take pictures of the two of them together!

Wei Zhao found it rather droll. Once Wu Chengtian had the pictures, he was certain to bring them to Sun Jingyan, eager to show her Wei Zhao's "true colors." But how could he know that there had never been anything between Wei Zhao and Sun Jingyan — that his earlier role as her boyfriend had been a sham from the very start?

This fellow had even put on such a solemn show, hosting a big dinner for everyone. If he ever learned the real situation, he'd probably be crying without tears, wouldn't he?

Now that he had seen through Wu Chengtian's scheme, Wei Zhao simply played along halfheartedly. After a few glasses of red wine, he suddenly felt the phone in his pocket vibrate once — likely a text message.

Wei Zhao nonchalantly took out his phone and glanced at it, only to see, with a start, that the message was from Wang Xinyan: "They're going to take pictures of you and Feng Xiaoxiao!"

After reading the message, Wei Zhao cast a somewhat astonished look in Wang Xinyan's direction. He hadn't expected her to tip him off. Just which side was she on?

At that moment, however, Wang Xinyan was not looking Wei Zhao's way at all. She sat there as calm and composed as ever, eating nothing, as if all of this had nothing whatsoever to do with her.

Wei Zhao smiled faintly. It appeared Wang Xinyan's relations with Kang Zhaolong, Wu Chengtian, and the rest of them were a complicated business as well. He composed a text in reply: "I know. Why are you with them?"

After the message was sent, Wang Xinyan didn't check her phone at once. She waited a little while before opening it to look, then rapidly typed out a response on the keypad, and finally put the phone away again.

Wei Zhao's phone vibrated once more. This time, taking a cue from Wang Xinyan, he waited a moment before taking out his phone and reading her message: "My family wants me to get engaged to Kang Zhaolong."

After reading Wang Xinyan's message, Wei Zhao couldn't help frowning. Get engaged to Kang Zhaolong? To be frank, Wei Zhao would rather not see Wang Xinyan draw too close to the Kang family.

After all, he and Wang Xinyan had shared a passing acquaintance, and there was a slight, ambiguous affinity between them. What was more, Wei Zhao's feud with the Kang family had already passed the point of reconciliation; in his eyes, the Kangs could come to ruin at any moment, and he naturally had no wish to see Wang Xinyan dragged down along with them.
