Chapter 321 — Meeting Wang Xinyan Again

The Blossom Guardian

"All right, and you can use the time to sort out what you need to bring," Uncle Qing said with a nod.

Wei Zhao was still wearing his student uniform, and there was no way he could go abroad like that — it would stand out far too much. A No.1 High School uniform drew no attention in Songshan City, but no other city had it, let alone a foreign country, and if he showed up wearing it he would certainly catch the eye of the local gangs!

Wei Zhao changed into the casual clothes he had bought on Night Market Street that day and put on his sunglasses. Then he took the blade from his shoe and tossed it into a drawer — something like that would never get through airport security, and he could simply buy another one to slip into his shoe once he arrived.

Wei Zhao even left his phone on the desk, and walked out with nothing at all.

"You are bringing nothing at all?" Uncle Qing eyed his outfit in surprise.

"What is there to bring? I am only bringing someone back," Wei Zhao said, shaking his head.

Uncle Qing said nothing more and handed Wei Zhao a credit card and a plane ticket. "This credit card can be overdrawn up to one million US dollars, and the PIN is the same as the card I gave you before."

Wei Zhao did not stand on ceremony, and pocketed the credit card and the ticket.

Flying was nothing new to Wei Zhao, though it was his first time flying under the identity of Wei Zhao. On past missions he had traveled under all sorts of made-up names.

Traveling light, Wei Zhao cleared security quickly and boarded the plane. Uncle Qing had bought a first-class ticket, and with Gu Pengzhan's fortune, a first-class ticket meant nothing at all.

Uncle Qing had bought a connecting ticket that required a transfer at Yanjing. Once aboard, however, Wei Zhao closed his eyes and prepared to sleep.

"Sir, may I get through..." Wei Zhao's seat was on the aisle, and from the moment he boarded he had kept his head down as if fast asleep.

In fact Wei Zhao was not asleep at all, only resting with his eyes closed, and hearing someone speak he guessed it must be the passenger in the inner seat arriving, so he rose to his feet as he spoke. But when he saw who it was, he froze. "Eh? Is that you?"

"?" Wang Xinyan stared at the man in oversized designer sunglasses before her. He looked familiar, yet she could not place him. "You are..."

Wei Zhao blinked, then remembered he was still wearing his sunglasses, so he reached up and pulled them off. "How about now?"

"It is you! Wei Zhao!" Wang Xinyan looked at him in astonishment. "You... what are you doing here?"

The next moment, though, Wang Xinyan realized how silly her question was. This was an airplane, and if Wei Zhao was here he was naturally taking the flight to Yanjing — otherwise he would not be here at all.

"Ha, whatever reason brings you here brings me here!" Wei Zhao shrugged. "Any luggage? Want me to put it up for you?"

"...Yes, please." Wang Xinyan hesitated a moment, then nodded. She was dragging a suitcase, and for a girl to lift it up would be awkward. She had meant to wait for a flight attendant to help, but with Wei Zhao offering, she would not stand on ceremony. "Thank you."

"It is nothing." With one hand Wei Zhao flipped open the overhead compartment, and with the other he grabbed Wang Xinyan's suitcase and set it firmly into place.

Wang Xinyan stared with her mouth open. The suitcase was not heavy, but to lift it with one hand — Wei Zhao certainly had strength to spare!

Wang Xinyan slipped into the inner seat, and Wei Zhao sat down as well.

"Thank you for what happened last time..." Wang Xinyan had long wanted to thank Wei Zhao. Last time, if he had not been there, it might have turned into serious trouble.

"That was nothing either." Wei Zhao shook his head. "Besides, did you not help me once on the train last time?"

"Ha, that time?" At the mention of the train, Wang Xinyan laughed. "That time you scared me to death. I thought you had been conned, and who would have thought the unlucky ones would be those men! By the way, are you going to Yanjing too?"

"Yes, but only to change planes," Wei Zhao said with a nod.

"Oh... I see..." A flicker of disappointment crossed Wang Xinyan's face. She had wanted to treat Wei Zhao to dinner to show her gratitude, but if he was only transferring he could not leave the airport at all... and inside the airport there was mostly fast food, hardly the place for a proper invitation.

"And you? What are you going to Yanjing for?" Wei Zhao asked.

"I... am going to deal with some family matters..." At this, Wang Xinyan's expression darkened.

"Oh?" Seeing that Wang Xinyan seemed unwilling to say more about it, Wei Zhao did not press her.

Silence fell between them at once. It was plain to see that Wang Xinyan was a girl who was not good at talking to people, a little introverted — otherwise she would not have been sitting alone quietly listening to her MP3 when he met her on the train.

And on the shopping street downtown, it was also because Wang Xinyan was poor with words that Wu Huiru had been able to extort her. Had she run into a forceful girl like Shen Yushu or a fierce one like Liu Xinwen, it would have been Wu Huiru who fled with her tail between her legs.

"Your phone number is..."

"Your phone number is..."

The two spoke almost at the same moment and could not help smiling at each other. Wang Xinyan blushed a little. "Give me your phone and I will punch it in for you!"

"I did not bring mine. I will give you my number, and you can just send me a message." Wei Zhao said, "My number is 152XXXX1234..."

"All right." Wang Xinyan nodded, took out a small phone, typed in Wei Zhao's number, and wrote a text message and sent it off.

"Is your family in Yanjing?" With a long journey ahead and Wang Xinyan not fond of talking, Wei Zhao had to find topics himself.

"It is my maternal grandfather's home..." Wang Xinyan said, sadness in her voice. "My maternal grandfather has passed away... I am going to the funeral..."

"Ah?" Wei Zhao froze, realizing he had touched on her grief. "Please accept my condolences! But why are you traveling alone?"

"My parents went ahead of me. I was still in school and had to get leave, so I am rushing over." Wang Xinyan explained, "It is nothing... My relationship with my maternal grandfather was not very close. We met only a few times, but I still feel sad inside! When my mother married my father, she broke with her family... My maternal grandfather and my paternal grandfather are enemies..."

Wei Zhao's head began to ache as he listened. The tangles of this family were complicated enough. No wonder there was not much grief to be seen on Wang Xinyan's face. Perhaps since breaking with her family her mother had seldom gone back, and since her maternal grandfather was enemies with her paternal grandfather, he would naturally have shown no kindness to her, a Wang bearing the Wang family name...

"Every family has its own troubles... But you are still luckier than me. I am the unlucky one — to this day I still do not know who my parents are!" Wei Zhao said to comfort Wang Xinyan.
